J. Cole says he was inspired to make the music video for his track "Crooked Smile" after watching the film "Fruitvale Station."

The music video - which debuted last week - depicts a police raid on J. Cole's house that ends in tragedy when his little sister is killed by a police officer.  The Roc Nation emcee tells MTV News that he wanted to "strike a nerve" with the video.

Apparently, he was motivated to highlight police brutality after seeing "Fruitvale Station," which recounts Oscar Grant's death at the hands of a Bay Area Rapid Transit Police officer.  J. Cole says he "cried the entire movie."

J. Cole dedicated the "Crooked Smile" video to seven-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones.  In 2010, she was shot and killed in Detroit in a law enforcement raid similar to the one depicted in the video.  Cole says he never forgot Aiyana's story and dedicated the video to her to "get more people to know about her story."

J. Cole recently preformed the song live with TLC at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Check it out:
