Rihanna has been tapped for a lofty honor at the upcoming 2013 American Music Awards. Dick Clark Productions has announced the pop superstar as the first recipient of its new "AMA Icon Award."
Producers say the award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level. They say Rihanna's iconic music and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and best-selling artists of all time.
Among others, this year's AMAs will include performances by Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Luke Bryan, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, and this year's host Pitbull.
The fan-voted American Music Awards will be presented Sunday, November 24th at the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. ABC will televise the awards from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm Eastern.
