Man Sentenced To 10-Days In Jail For Oversleeping

Black Police Precinct And Courthouse Museum Recalls Miami's Segregated Past

The unexpected responsibility of court duty has a 21-year old Florida man is facing jail time. 21-year-old Deandre Somerville of Florida says he overslept jury duty and was subsequently sentenced to 10-days in jail, probation for 1 year, and 150 hours of community service.

The first time Somerville appeared in court he was informed of jury selection and was told to return the next day. The following day Somerville states he accidentally overslept and missed his jury duty. When he woke up, he headed to work instead of calling to the court not knowing there would be major repercussions. Pretty tough.
